Joaia App
I led the technical development of Holoai’s consumer AI local-guide app and built its React Native frontend and Node.js/MongoDB backend.
The challenge
Holoai was building Joaia, a consumer AI local guide that combines generative AI with curated local knowledge, maps, places and tourism recommendations. The product needed to turn an exploratory concept into reliable iOS and Android apps while requirements and user flows were still evolving.
My role
I led the technical development of the app and implemented both the mobile frontend and backend. I owned the architecture, React Native components, product-focused user flows, and the Node.js and MongoDB services behind them.
I worked closely with design, product management and Holoai’s founders. My role was to translate product requirements and design concepts into technical solutions, make architecture decisions and carry features from early exploration into production.
The solution
- A cross-platform React Native and TypeScript app shipped to both app stores
- Voice and text chat with speech-to-text and text-to-speech for conversational local-guide answers
- Maps, places, guide profiles and product flows for discovering destinations and recommendations
- Photo recognition for points of interest and custom guide voices
- A Node.js and MongoDB backend supporting the consumer app and wider Joaia platform
Results
- Live on the App Store and Google Play
- One shared mobile codebase for iOS and Android
- A production foundation for Joaia’s AI local-guide product and subsequent customer integrations
